Default 8" Door speakers...

Anyone ever put an 8" door speaker in the door? How'd they sound? I saw that memphis has 8" drivers. I think they'd fit.

8s fit, and different 8s sound different.

Generally speaking, an 8 will produce louder, lower bass. But also will have less top end than a smaller speaker. Great in a 3 way system.

The memphis 8's have a tweeter in them also. I'd think them, coupled with a 3.5" would be really nice.

Well if htey have a tweeter with them, they are meant to be full range and would not need a third speaker. There are a few 8" 2 ways around (Dynaudio comes to mind.)

Though after going 3 way myself, I really like having the midbass and midrange apart.

Yea, they're a full range speaker, I was thinking it might work better if you planned on not doing anything with the rears? i dunno. I'm just thinking out loud.

So you think a 3 way component is better? I'm sure sound quality is better?

Well, the midbass doesn't color the midrange in a 3 way set, which is really nice. It's not a night and day difference, though. It does afford you more tuning options if you go active, and more install options (midbass in doors, midrange in kicks)

And very few 8s have enough top end to blend nicely with a tweeter.

Unfortunately in C5 doors, the midrange can end up blocked. I'd shwo you a pic but my host is down at the moment.

I really dont like tweeters in the doors either, because they end up blocked by knees.
