Hi All
I have been looking around here for some time now, and it has really been helpful. Thank´s for a great forum
Today I have a C5 2001 coupe with stock stereo (only cassette )
To this there was connected a JVC cd changer that send sound to the radio over the air, so I set the radio on 88,3 and the sound comes out from the CD changer.....
I have been thinking of replacing the whole system, BUT now I´m thinking of buying an C6 instead....
I have some questions that you probably can answer for me:
Is there a big difference in the stock system if you compare the stock C5 to the stock C6, and is there a difference in sound if you buy a C6 with the HU with display/Nav compared to the stock C6 HU.
I do not want to buy a C6 with Nav and the whole, then be forced to change the whole system again to be satisfied.
By most of the reports I've read the C6 system sounds slightly better than the C5. So basically folks who are likely to be content with a factory audio system are more likely to find it acceptable than the C5's. Does that mean it sounds good? In my opinion... NO WAY! It still has no real highs, a serious midbass hole and super muddy bass. It does nothing well.
I can answer your specific question regarding NAV - it will NOT sound any better than the other systems. The only thing that changes in the NAV system is the head itself, the amp & speakers are exactly the same. I have read some reports that the NAV actually sounds a little worse.
If I had it to do all over again I would have ordered the least expensive system I could, ripped it all out and started over. As it is I will inevitably be pulling the factory NAV system I paid too much money for.
I think this is spot on what I needed to know!
This is also more or less what I expected. Then there is no reason to go for the Nav HU. I´m not sure for how long I can live with the Stock system.
I have just read all the FAQ for the C5 on how to exchange the whole system for my old C5.....
Now I have to read the C6 as well. Great that this site exists, do not want to think about how much extra time it would take if I should find out of all this myself.
Am I right if I presume that it is a little simpler to replace the C6 stock instead of the C5 (modifying bezel and so on) if I want to have 2DIN HU.

Yep, the C6 is a double-din opening and there are several brands of bezels that are available to make an aftermarket fit like a glove.
I would add that NAV in my 06 does integrate nicely into the HUD. I dont always think about that as a feature, as Im used to looking at the NAV in the console for my guidance. But it is nicely integrated and if you can train yourself to read it up there, its cool.
My most pleasant surprise was with how easly I was able to swap the factory XM module out for factory SIRIUS. The channel I.D.s and every thing work great and my SIRIUS channels come up in the HUD so it stayed very OEM.
Now, since I dont have steering wheel controls, Im not looking at the HUD when I change channels so again, the value is more of looking cool than really providing a function.
Either way, if you arent comfortable with the idea of changing out all the speakers and adding an amp, I wouldnt buy a C6 Corvette.
The siren song of HUD integration is what hooked me into including it in my order. It is a very cool feature, and I have swapped out my XM for Sirius as well, but those things still aren't enough to overcome it's poor sound, lack of bluetooth, mediocre at best navigation, etc. Dunno when I'll do it, but the swap is practically inevitable.
My daily driver Avalanche is basically my test mule. I just installed the new Alpine IVA-W205 and will be installing the PXA-H701 processor, an amp and speakers. If I like how all that works once the new Blackbird NAV gets released that may be the way I go in the C6 too.
I have no problem with exchanging the speakers, do wiring and adding amp(s),,,,,but I´m not comfortable with rebuilding the bezel like you have to do with the C5 (to have a 2DIN). So for me it seems like better idea (read easier) to exchange the audio system on a C6, of course this is not the only reason that I want a C6.......
Thank´s for your help
Stefan

That cannot be your best reason to go to a C6 though, right? I mean, heck, you could pay someone to do a very professional DDin swap on the C5 for about $3K max including all components. It will cost you $15K to move to a C6 and still need to spend $2K for a new sound system.
Of course there is more reasons why I want a C6 . The audio part is a just a small part, but I have never heard the audio system in a C6, so I was just wondering if maybe they have learned theire lesson and made it a good one. But as I expected (with Bose) it is just to get it out and start over again.....
