Default Need speaker selection advise...help!!!

I need some professional advise concerning an audio system I'm considering.

I'm looking at replacing the stock Bose Gold system in my 96 Coupe in the very near future. I've been doing some research and I'm leaning towards Pioneer DEH P6900UB for the HU and using Infinity Kappa 52.7i up front and Infinity Kappa 63.7i in the rear. No amp or sub at this time.
My question is this:

1. If I use the Kappa speakers rated at 2 ohms with this HU and without an amp will it cause damage to the HU?

2. What kind of sound quality can I expect, do you think I'll get much bass response?

3. Should I use speakers rated at 4 ohms with this HU?

Thanks in advance for the advise.

You cannot use the 2 ohm models with just HU power, you may not fry it the HU's internal amp right away .. but it will have a ton of heat and either burn out, or cause damage to the HU itself.

I would not expect very much in the bass response .. especially below about 80hz (where most subs take over). You will likely have a little bit of kick, but not alot especially when running off of HU power. Typical 50w advertised HU makes about 14w per channel (that are useable, above that and you get distortion).

The last problem that you run into is that you are putting larger (and I believe more efficient) drivers behind you, which is bad for your soundstage. A little bit of fading work on the HU will correct this, and to be honest you may not notice or care, all depends upon how you like it. I don't believe in rear fill speakers, as I have never been to a concert where they had "rear fill".

If it were me, I would buy myself the front components you mentioned and a HU and a 4 channel amp. See how you like the way that works and if you want the "rear fill" from the back speakers you can add them, or you can add a sub later to fill in the systems response. You will get much better response from the front components from amp power than you will from HU power as well.
