Want to pull the trigger and drop a hidden 10" in my C5, obviously in the rear center compartment. So far this is my only car I've yet to put a system in. Love MTX and Alpine. Keeping stock deck.
Looking for a box I can either buy online that you guys like or tips I can tell the craftsman/installer to use when building my custom box. I'm thinking the amp would go in the compartment to the right of the center storage area. Any ideas or words of wisdom.

Contact NVTHIS here on this forum. He builds "stealth boxes" that will go under your center compartment cover. There are some restrictions as to magnet size and mounting depth on said boxes, but h can tell you all that.
He's building a box for me now to house 1 10" JL subwoofer.
I built a super small box for an elemental designs sq10 to go in the center compartment and it worked great and if done with a small enough amp the amp can also be fit in there under the cover.

Lots of options .. you will need to adaptor to retain the stock HU and gain a set of RCA outs. You will also need power for your sub .. I don't recommend anything less than 200w RMS for a sub in a vette. There are lots of small package 2-300w RMS amps available, you could get one of the Rockford Fosgate 25 to life amps that are on closeout at Sonicelectronix and millionbuy.com right now for around $150. I would go with the punch 75 myself for your application and with the correct box you may just be able to contain the whole thing in the center compartment .. maybe an ed sq10 like Penta suggested.
I don't think 200 watts would be anywhere near enough for even a 10" sub. Not if you really want the sub to smack you in the back of the head.
My 12" sub is powered by a Fosgate P500-2, which is putting out 667 watts RMS according to it's spec sheet. It hits pretty hard with this setup, but I can't see having any less power than this, otherwise it really wouldn't have the same punch.
i've had systems with 150 wrms to the sub. it didn't smack me in the back of the head but it sure did fill out the sound and was a nice improvement. My old install had 300 wrms and that was great for that setup. I think as long as you buy the right sub you can get away with 200 wrms as long as you know that you're not going to rattle your neighbors windows. If we had trunks that were closed off from the cabin then i'd try to sway you away from the 200 wrms mark, but in the open cockpit of a vette I think you could be happy. Just be aware of the manufacturers specs and don't go buy a 12w7 if you only have 200 wrms
i just realized you're in cali. if you want to head over to my place i have 12" image dynamics sub and box that i could sell you for cheap. you'll have to scrape away the carpet (it's tan) but it could be a great option for you.

I guess with me, I'm not a fan of the "boomy bass" that most of the import guys seem to like, I like to have it super tight so that when the bass drum hits on a good rock song, I feel it hit me hard! That's why I prefer to run a little more wattage.
Actually, if space (and weight considerations) were not an issue, I would've much rather gone with four 10" subs in my C5. I used to have an 87 Mustang GT which had four ten inch subs, powered by a HiFonics Zeus amp and that thing hit hard! The bass was super tight. Ever since I had that system I've been a little bit disappointed with anything else I've had. It's hard to get that same kind of kick out of just one single sub (although this setup in my car now is not bad)

Depending on which sub you go with ( depth wise ) most will fit under the stock compartment cover without any issues. Some subs have thick surrounds and this may interfere with the cover. While playing your music, I would recommend not latching the cover as to allow air from the sub to escape and allow more precise and clear bass notes from the sub.
Here is a dual box that shows how the box is hidden under the cover:

The hookups are on the bottom of the box in the center. As for subs, Infinity, JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, Diamond Audio and Boston are what I use the most of. I have used pretty much everything out there, but these are the ones that everybody seems to like.

My sub amp finally came in so the tension is mounting. That sub is gonna get over 700 watts. The box looks great. Can't wait to hear it!
Now I just need to get components for the front and some deadener.

Got It!
Two days ago it was delivered. I installed it and the PDX amps today. The cover does go on and latch, but I had to cut the carpet out of the center compartment for clearance. I'll post pictures tomorrow.
Thanks.
