91 bose radio replacement question

91 bose radio replacement question
The amps are bad in the front speakers I believe because I constantly get a horrible sounding scratching or high pitched sounds out of them. Alot of hiss too. Anyways, could I just get new speakers of any kind and use them instead of replacing the amps. Everything is original so I just wanted to know what I can and cannot replace for it to still work fine. I just didnt want to go and buy new speakers and they not work with the head unit or something. Please help. thanks!

The Bose HU does not have an amp, each speaker has it's own amp. You must replace the amp's in your speakers. I am sure the speakers are fine, the amps go bad and need to be rebuilt or replaced. If you look in the C4 FAQ at the top of this section, there is a link to Dr Dons, who repairs Bose amps and HU and alot of good info on the Bose systems in our cars.
