Default stereo guys: amp output wiring?

Howdy all happy Monday HURRAY to be at work

I'm finally getitng around to putting my stereo stuff in the car, and after pulling all the goodies (speakers, amp, wiring, etc etc) I realize I lost the schematic (was written on a napkin I think LOL) for the wiring of the output of my amp. You know, the wires that feed the speakers. There's a small plug harness, with 9 wires - 4 on one side, 4 on the other, and a small blue lead that I recall may have been for constant power??? The sets of 4 were I think one set for the front L/R, and the other for the rear L/R, but who the heck knows now. It's an old Pioneer Premier 4 channel deal, it was a high quality piece ages ago, and is still a good amp. I dont remember the number specifically, but is there a chance anyone may know how it wires up? Could they all be common to each other? I tried googling it but came up with nothing but new ones for sale.
Owell, thanks in advance, and as always
ROCK ROCK ROCK!!!

One side of the amp will be for power. Usually the power side has screw down clamps with anchors to hold the positive, negative and signal wires.
Obviously (+) is the red positive (constant power)
(-) is the black ground wire
and the blue is usually the signal wire that turns the amp on when you turn your car or headunit on. You want the blue wire to only run to something that gets power once you start the car or turn your radio on or you could mount a switch.
You don't want the blue wire to be a constant "on" as well as the red wire or the amp will always be on and your battery dead.
I usually run the blue signal wire to a wiper power wire as they require the car to be in ACC mode to run....or run it off something on the head unit that only comes on when you turn your radio on.

Not sure about what speaker plugs are what as amps are all different. Usually the speaker plug is oposite the side of the amp all your power plugs into. You should be able to find somehting on the internet if you keep looking.
Post some pics of the amp and plugs and maybe we can figure it out.

SWEET thanks - so could I realistically connect Mr Blue to the switched-on side of my battery-cutoff-key switch?

Doesn't really matter what circuit you use, long as it's one that's switched with the ignition so the amp will turn off when you shut the motor down.

Damn, I can't find anything on it anywhere, I even called Pioneer and they have no idea because it's so old (at least ten years). I'll take a pic tonite, maybe that will help.

The fact that there's 9 connections makes it logical that they're speaker outputs. Simple way to check it is to get 12V hooked to the amp's main 12V input. Then put 12V on "Mr Blue" there... if the amp turns on, you know it's the trigger.

I guess you could put the signal wire to your battery disconnect switch but what if you forget to switch it off? Its much easier to just connect it to something on the car that only turns on when the car is on. This signal wire shouldn't pull much voltage, its only a signal to turn the amp on. Your amp power should go directly to your battery.

Yeah, I know how to get the amp turned on, but how would I figure out which speaker wires are positive and which are negative? I guess I can set up a test using a speaker and just rolling the head unit from 'left front' to 'right front' etc, but that will only tell me which 2 leads are for which speaker?

Most of the time you'll find positive on the left, negative on the right. But really, if you're consistent in how you wire then it doesn't really matter unless you introduce another amplifier into the mix. Worst case, you're out of phase from nominal, but as long as the speakers are all in phase with EACH OTHER then it won't matter.

So basicially what I'm saying is to pick which side you're gonna use as + and wire 'em all up that way. It'll work.

Nice, thanks - I'll try doing that, I'm pretty sure at least each set for each corner is still together, so I should be able to detrmine which set is for which corner, and then I'll make certain to match them up correctly. IIRC one of each pair has a line on the insulation too, that will help.....
I'll letcha all know in the next couple days what happens!
