So I've pieced together a bunch of information about the bose system in Vettes. Im not the best car audio car in the world so I'm a little confused and need some guidance.
I have a Pioneer headunit, a subwoofer amp and some subwoofers from my Camaro that I want to put into my Z. I keep hearing that the Bose system presents all kinds of issues due to how its wired. What needs to be done to use the factory Bose speakers (dont care if the factory Subs work) with the Pioneer headunit and the amp and subs I already have.
Would it be easier to nix the bose system all together and replace/rewire the entire thing?
you can get a descent 2way setup for $150. The adapter to let you keep the bose I think is $90 or if you go with just the standard gm harness, you just keep the twiddler in the doors and that is crap at best. Sell your mono amp and get a nice 4ch and bridge the rear for your sub
I currently have an Infinity Amp that I was using to power the component speakers in my Camaro. I was figuring I needed to buy a mono amp for sub woofers. Will this amp do what your saying?
using the bose setup is not a good idea. If you want the stock head unit, the PAC adapter will cost you at least $100. Keeping the stock speakers is just pointless. Your best bet is to get some inexpensive aftermarket speakers (prob coaxials with high sensitivity ratings if $$ is a factor) and run them off channels 1 & 2 on the amp and bridge the 3/4 channels for your sub. 278 Watts is a decent amount of power for a 10" sub. Granted you won't get tremendous kick but your low end fill should be fine.
Sounds like I have a big project to take on then. Thanks for all the input guys. I might just use the Infinity for the door and side speakers and a mono for a dual sub hookup. Thats how my Camaro was setup and I liked it. Ill let you guys know how it turns out.
OK, I decided to go ahead and plan to just pull the whole Bose system and replace it. Do I need a special wiring harness to do this or do I just go ask for a Corvette wiring harness?
If you're going to install a new head unit and new speakers, you'll probably benifit from running new speaker wires (especially if you want to amplifiy it later) other than that, you'll juet need to find an ignition-hot wire, power wire and ground.
It seems pretty straight forward I think. I was looking at the door speaker setup and it looks like with some wiggling around and fit a component set if I fab up a bracket. Are people doing this regularly and with what speaker sets?
1/2" MDF usually works for mounts pretty well. Some people use 1/4" hardboard. G'luck on the install man ... I second the 720prs set from Pioneer as well .. best $250 set of components out there no doubt. Got very good reviews from several highly respected tuners about them at a recent audio gathering (I have them in my truck)
