Default CD Changer problems

Greetings,

OK, ordered and received the GM 6 CD Changer for the car.

Hooked the changer cable into the XM box, the cable out of the "floor" into the changer cable connector box and ran the changer cable under the carpet to the rear left well. Installed the stuff back there to mount the changer and then went to test the changer.

I loaded the cartridge with 6 CDs, the label side of the CD is facing toward the side of the cartridge that says "Insert in this direction". The cartridge door sits to the left end of the changer, so the door is fully closed when you slide it to the left. That makes the cartridge slide in with the top and non data side toward the rear of the car. (During testing last night I flipped the CDs over in case they were backwards, Nada, still won't work.)

I start the car (or turn on acc) and I see CD / CD CDX on the screen. The changer is duly noted and recognized. The changer is making a noise, like a cycling sound of putting in a disc, remove the disc, put in the next disc, remove the disc, put in the next... continuously and does that for a really long time. During this, I can't eject the cartridge. As a matter of fact, getting the cartridge out is totally frustrating and takes forever to get it to eject.

I press on the screen "button" for the changer and get, "Initializing CD Changer" (or something to that effect) and that's it. No music, no CD screen comes up and the original sound selection eventually comes back on the radio screen and continues to play.

Suggestions?

I'm stumped. I did note as I unloaded the equipment last night that all of the cartons and individual boxes had been opened before. There was a "seal" tape over the ends that was cut and it appeared that the boxes had been opened. The ONLY thing sealed as "stock" were the bolts and nuts of the mounting hardware in plastic heat sealed bags. Even the cable had been re-wrapped and re-taped in bubble wrap.

I'm waiting for a response from the vendor but I thought I'd toss this out to see if there was something that I missed or did incorrectly.

I am underwhelmed by the number of responses.

Oh well, the vendor is sending me another unit. I'll replace the changer and see if that fixes the problem.

Never mind...
