C4, Sanyo head unit fits stock?

I was at a car show/ flea market recently and came across a vendor selling a Sanyo am/fm CD unit(maybe MP3) that looked like it was the same size as the stock stereo hole in my 86. It was supposed to be for the C4. Unfortunately the salesman didn't know very much about it. He didn't know if a sub could be connected, didn't know if it plugged into the stock harness, was pretty sure that it worked with the Delco/Bose system. Very uninformative. I have seen after market units installed in the stock location and I do not care for the look all that much.
I have a fairly nice Panasonic unit that I could install, I just don't like the look of the long skinny unit in an almost square hole.
Does anyone know what the model number of this Sanyo unit is that fits the C4's(1986)?
Does anyone have one? Was it easy to install, sounds OK?
