I'm looking for a description similar to the ones given in the "Point of Reference" post.
Thank you!
I can tell you that the K2P is very detailed, and has an excellent tweeter (that needs to be installed "just right.") and has very good midbass, for a 6.5. I found the midbass to be just slightly... off sounding. Something I don't think is really an issue. Just in comparison to the old focal utopia series.
All that said, if you are going to buy very nice speakers and wedge them into bad locations, it's not worth your money.
speaking of k2p, The mids will do fine in the door, their off axis is good... But the tweeters must go in the A-pillar, cross firing. You could also put them down low, similar to kick mounts, but might lose top end when people are in the car.
The 720 set is quite nice, with solid midbass output, better than average detail in the midrange, and acceptable tweeter performance. As Kale mentioned the tweet is the weak link in the set. For the money I really have not heard better, especially when considering running them through the passives that are included (well built).
The k2p set is one of my favorites as I have always liked a stiffer cone in my mids (polykevlar). Midbass and midrange are quite good, and I think the midrange issues Kale mentioned was an almost overly forward midrange from the kevlar cone, especially when compared to something like a Utopia W cone (which are more laid back and detailed)
720 Pros:
Price $250
Midrange and midbass have good performance, but only down to 80hz (not really below that)
Great plug and play set for MANY people
Midrange driver rivals sets 3x as expensive
720 Cons:
Need a lot of power, as they are inefficient. 100w per side minimum IMO
Tweeter can be a little harsh and spitty if trying to cross too low (which IMO the passive box does) Great in the 3.15k region, and the mid has acceptable performance up to there as well, could run the tweet at 4khz.
k2p Pros:
Midbass and midrange are very lively, accurate, forward ( almost too much, not for everyone)
Suits a lot of people that want a bright, solid performing component set
Can perform well off of less power (50-75w per side is quite acceptable)
k2p Cons:
Tweeters can be very bright, harsh and spitty if care is not taken in the install
Price is not for everyone
Just my analysis, and I have to be honest I am going by memory about the Focal set from a few years ago. Although I am currently running a 7" Focal Polykevlar midbass in the vette which I like a lot.
