Default Paging Sam Lin

I've just about got the baffles/enclosures/ and replacement plates made for my 2k1 coupe. However, problem. I've constructed a defroster vent, which holds my componet set tweeters in a center channel based setup, firing onto the windshield with a -12 angle towards driver/passenger. However I'm unsure as to what I should use to prevent the defroster heat from affecting the backside of the tweeters (ie heat soak). Suggestions? Fiberglass shield, duct tape and hardboard? Thanks

I would try a multi-layer setup. Have the side towards the heat composed of the aluminum HVAC tape, to try and reflect and/or conduct as much heat away as possible. Then use a layer of thin foam, rubber, neoprene, or cork to back that, to insulate it. Then another layer of aluminum HVAC, to prevent heat radiation towards the tweeter. Leave a small, 5 mm or larger air gap between the shield and the tweeter back for yet more insulation with a small dead air space, and you'll be fine. Tweeters are tough, I know of some nearing 10 years old, in AZ sun, without problem. They don't have the sensitive surround and cone of a mid or woofer, so they're much less affected by climate.

Hey Eric, I thought you were contemplating an install, based on your questions in here. Hell yeah I'll help out! Before you buy stuff, send me an e-mail with what you're getting. I know of a few local places where you can get certain brands, or stuff like power wire relatively cheap.

I repeat: Hell yeah I'll help out! Send me an e-mail or call me. I've been slowly assembling a system for my Vette also, I'm down to needing an amp, a pair of subs, and some fiberglass, and I'll be working on this one too.
