I've come across a guy who'se selling A pair of Alpine SPX 5.25" Woofers. Since i moved my front tweeters to the dash, i've been thinking about adding a dedicated midrange. I'd have to buy a set of SPX MB crossovers (if you know where to buy some I'd love some suggestions)
I'll be running them at 100W per channel with 180 W peak.
Does this sound like a good idea or will i be throwing $$$ away?
Actually, i'd like s mid around 3.5-4" instead of the larger 5.25 however the Type X 4" woofer is a rare one.....and finding the SPX 17MB crossover is even more challenging.
What i'd like to do is get a cleaner midrange especially in the area of electric guitars, mostly in the area of 1K-5kHz.
I think you would be hard pressed to find a mirange cleaner sounding than the dyn MD142 - In fact that's one of the reasons I'm not using them anymore. I like a LITTLE bit of a warm/dirty sound in the midrange.
They can run 700hz @ 24db - 4.5khz pretty well
wouldnt cross them lower than 800hz if your slope is 12db.
im selling damn near everything actually, in my other post.
if you're this interested in try other drivers and expirmenting i'd highly suggest getting into the diy aspect of this hobby. go fully active and test out different drivers.
