I figure this is somthing worth mentioning since many of us have done this. For those of you installing component speakers, make sure to mount your tweeter where it will fire through the grille and not the door. Failure to do so will cause your highs to be blocked by the door panel.
Here the tweeter is blocked by the door panel
(alot of grumbling and cutting later)
The tweeter now fires through the grille
Additionaly, if your tweeter came with angle mounts, I highly suggest using them. You'll have to move your tweeter mounting location even closer to the woofer to get proper aiming but the end result is crystal clear highs.
I've got and AFR and FP guage on the pillar so I mounted them behind the door latches. Probably the 2nd best choice.
Nah, second best choice is kick panel type locations, but more mid panel. I think I'd rather put gauges in the door handles and hte tweets in the a-pillar to avoid all the sonic issues with tweets in that location. BTDT.
Really? In the kicks? When I first had my C5 installation done, I hated them in the door because I blocked them with my leg and, depending on how I moved my leg, the frequency response of the system seemed to change. I would have figured kick panels would be worse.
I ended up mounting mine on the dash, firing up at the windshield and wired them out of phase. They were pretty bright there, but sounded much better than in the bottom of the doors...at least to my ears.
I do love how yours are mounted, Kale. I am thinking about having my a-pillars in the C6 modified and moving mine there...still trying to decide if I like them mounted in the upper door or not.
