Default Anyone have a spec.dock for iPod?

I currently already have an iPod interface installed in my car, but I I hate the way the connection wire has to sit around while the iPod isn't in use, or I have to keep putting it back in and taking it out of the center console.

I use one of those Belkin cup holder cradle things but it just holds the ipod, there's no built in dock.

Here's a pic of the setup:

You can see how the wire plugs into the bottom, which is fine, but I would love to have more of a dock that hides all the wiring and I just put it in the dock and go.

I've been looking at the spec.dock but had a few questions:

I wanted to know if anyone had this unit and how it works. Do you have to do any type of drilling to get the wire through the cup holder or whatever?

Anyone know of any other type of cupholder type docks like this? $150 for a cupholder dock seems pretty pricey, but in my searches I have yet to find anything else like this...

$150? I was looking at that site yesterday and the one for the iPhone is $299. For that kind of coin, I need to know it works well. I'm sick of FM transmitters b/c the Corvette NAV is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough - I got a lot of hiss no matter which unit and which FM Band.

Ya, it costs more if you need the little piece of hardware that actually connects to the system deck input on your stereo. the thing I got for $150 is just the dock that sits in the cup holder and then connects to the other piece, which then connects to the deck.

So if you don't have any existing iPod interface in your car, you'll get everything you need for $299.

I'm not sure what the interface is that they use, but I have a USA-Spec iPod interface and the spec.dock cup holder base thing connects to it and works terrifically.

Give them a call and ask them about any questions you might have, they are very good with support and can ease your mind with any concerns.

I'd recommend it. It's a very seamless integration with the car and using this dock is much easier than having to mess with a wire dangling around. The only negative is you have to drill a hole thru the bottom of the cup holder in order for the wire to go through it. But oh well, it's worth it for the end result and if you ever need to get rid of the car and don't want to leave the spec.dock in it, I doubt the cup holder piece would be that expensive to replace.

I didn't look at it carefully enough - but does it integrate your iPhone with your NAV head unit and Onstar for making calls? For that functionality, I'd gladly pay $299. Considering I keep mostly video on my phone in lieu of music, the iPod interface alone isn't all that much of a motivator.

I've been using a spec.dock in my C5Z for a few years now...absolutely LOVE it

Yeah it's a tad pricey (Matt cut me a deal since mine was technically a prototype but it was still expensive ). I have not seen any other product like the spec.docks thus far

I chose to drill/cut a hole into the bottom of the cupholder to route the cable; couldn't really figure out a better way and still retain the functionality of the lid (very important to me ).

You might have more room in your C6 cupholder to do something different.

I have the iPod Touch, not the iPhone, so I have no idea how it would interact, but I'm guessing it doesn't. All controls are still through the iPod with mine, and I'm pretty sure that's how it goes.

Call them to ask.
