be very careful about ebay sales, there are some companies that are selling fake dyn speakers. i'm not sure, but zalytron may have dyn components.
I saw some fakes on ebay the other day. Lots of fake Focals and Dynaudios floating around. One of the reasons I bought my from an authorised dynaudio dealer.
Thanks very much for the responses! Kale, your setup is what prompted my post to begin with.
You say it's possible to just purchase them directly from dynaudio? I may just do that unless there's some way to be sure woofersetc isn't selling fakes.
Thank you for the offer on your used units, I'm specifically looking for the MW172's. Heck, I'd be up for squeezing the 182's in, but I dunno about that.
Tempting! You have any tweeter recommendations you'd care to float? Care to share your crossover points?
I'm probably going to end up going fully active on this one.... have an audiocontrol 4xs gathering dust... Already have a good amp good for 240rms x2 @4ohms and would grab a nice small two by for the tweets.
I'm curious as to how you identify 'fake' speaker sets on eBay. Can you enlighten us? (not being a smart a$$, I'm sincerely curious).
Thanx.
he hinted at it in his first reply, serial #'s. ask for serials #'s and they'll probably ignore you. if they do reply then i would assume you cross check that # with dyn...but i'm guessing on that one

'preciate the reassurance on woofersetc.
Thanks!
Dan
I'm running some md130's in an active setup. Not sure about x-over points on mine. my mids will play cleanly up to 4k so I'll have plenty of overlap to pick out the best x-over point for the set. Check out www.zaphaudio.com and he has tested a bunch of tweeters (look for the "tweeter mishmash") and that may get you pointed in the right direction

Not sure if I agree with this. If I was a vendor concerned about selling in a manner not approved with the mfg, I would be extra cautious. Maybe they are "on guard" in case the mfg. was making an inquiry to check up on them. I saw a post a couple of days ago from a JL Audio employee who admitted to doing just that. He said that if they caught there distributors selling for below retail that they would yank their distributorship.

Sorry for the hijack, but I'm still curious about this...
If it's simply a lack of serial numbers, that would imply 'grey market' items for which you might not get a warranty, but would still have been manufactured by Dyn or whomever, correct? But, the speakers themselves wouldn't necessarily be "fakes", would they? "Fakes" to me implies that someone is manufacturing a speaker that looks like the Dyn's (or whichever brand), but is of inferior quality.
You are not likely to find genuine Dynaudio drivers sold seperately online. You may find their subs and a few of their other drivers in retail car speaker packaging, but Dynaudio has stopped their OEM raw divers sales. I used to buy them from Madisound and Meniscus, but unfortunately, they are no longer available.
