Though happy with my current set-up, I feel the need to continue to improve the system. I kind of miss the rear "fill" sound I used to have before I gutted my last system. I am currently driving an Eclipse CD5000 HU w/ JL300/2 and JL 250/1 JLAudio Amplifiers. My front speakers are ZR625CSi's, 10" JL sub. What I want to do is swap the 300/2 amp for a 450/4 and add some 5-1/4 XR's to replace the rears that are not being used. Is this a simple swap or will additional wiring needed to go back to HU? If it is just speaker to amp then I am golden- I just don't want to have to tear out the interior again to run wires. Also, how do you get the rear speaker panels off? It's been awhile since I looked at that and am a little squeamish.
There maybe a JL Audio 300/2 amp (black) and an Eclipse CD5000 for sale here soon w/ only about 30 hrs. on them? Anybody interested?
You will need an extra set of RCA cables if you want to maintain fader control. I'm not familier with those speakers, but check the mounting depth on the drivers side. The Gas tank nossle makes mounting large magnet speakers a challange. I was able to mount my SPX 177r comps in the rear using a 3/4" MDF spacer.
Thanks!
So the RCA cables run to the back of the headunit to the amp, right? Does anybody know what the maximum rear speaker depth is for a Z06or convertible without modification? I think I have a pair of Alpines back there now but not hooked up. I'm betting that most higher end speakers are going to have a larger magnet and potential interference....
Thanks!

You are correct on the RCAs. What model alpines do you have? if their Coaxial, odds are they'll fit.
The Alpines do fit as I had them with my stock stero before my present system. I just left them in place when I had the new system installed (not connected to amp). I don't recall the model but they were not the best but did have a directional tweeter. I was wanting to put a higher quality component speaker in their place...

If the Eclipse has high level outputs (speakers outputs) you may try just connecting those up to the rear speakers. That's how I have the vert. Doors are amped and the rears are head unit only. I think its just the right amount of fill and they also work pretty good for the surround sound on the DVD player.
I agree with jbondfl. Unless you want a lot of bass from the rear, I would put Coaxials in, run them off the deck power and cross them over pretty high so you don't eat the deck power pushing low frequencies.
If you want more bass and are planning on using the rears for that, you're going to need amp power.
JL's website shows a wiring diagram where they have a 300/2 amp pushing (2) front XR650's with (2) coaxial XR650's tapped in with an 8 ohm 25W resistor inline. What are these? Where would I get them? Is this better than using the headunit power? I kind of do want more bass in the rear- I have a partition that lessens the impact of my 10W3 at present...
