Start by replacing the bose stereo? Then yours will sound much better than your buddies. I just did it, and when the rear channels alone were only functional, it was still better.

To make your stereo sound good, just replace it all. Read the C4 FAQ at the top of the section, and then ask any questions you may have.
I have a couple of buddies with '96 Corvettes and their Bose system is way better then my Bose Gold in my '92 Corvette.
There's is clearer, bass is better and highs are clean.
I had my amps rebuilt last year, was there something else that I should have done? My car only has 26K miles...

Thanks for the replies. The amps are the OEM units which were rebuilt by Dr Don. Just seems odd how good their car sounds compared to mine. Being that there isn't a significant difference then I could start with swapping parts...
I was thinking about this... and somewhere in the depths of my memory - and don't quote me on this - I think they upgraded the amps on the C4 Bose... more power or something, but I don't remember when or what.
