Yes, there can be differences, but whether they're something to worry about is another matter. Mostly, it depends on the metals involved, the expected current, contact area... in the real world, they're about as important as gold plating, which is to say, not very important.

Here's what i'm doing: I need to transfer 55 amps (max) a distance of >2 feet directly to/from the battery. I will be using 8 awg wire (unless you reccomend 4 awg)
