Help...I've been reading factory cd changers will not work on the 99 vettes with factory in-dash cd players. Is this true?? HELP!!! I want a cd changer but not at the cost of having an in-dash cassette player.
I don't think that's true. From every website that I've played with to configure a C5, the tape player is optional, and not required when choosing the changer. Dealer orders probably delete the in-dash CD player and get the cassette for supposed desired consumer flexibility. Maybe that practice started the rumor that CD head units don't work with CD changers.
I was happy that the C5 I found had the changer, but disappointed with the tape player up front. However, the tape head unit does give you the flexibility and ease of installation for a portable MP3 device. For me, I think I like the http://www.digisette.com the best. It's the least intrusive, and its memory cards can fit in my PDA, too.
A remote CD changer WILL work with a 99 (and also a 97, 98, 00, 01, and 02) head unit - CD or tape. Harness is already in place to connect wires. Not a complex installation at all.
