Can't really afford the AVIC-Z2...is the D3 worth it?
I don't really want to pony up the kind of cash necessary for a Z2...what exactly am I missing out on downgrading to a D3?
Does the nav disc always have to be on the D3 for the nav screen to be on the display? If so, there is no place for a DVD simultaneously?
There seems to be alot of info, but also alot of misinformation too...just trying to get all the correct details

Can't speak for the D3, but I have the Z2 in my F150 and it is awesome. Considering putting it in the vette. The price has come down considerably. I've seen it as low as $1500.

Yeah, but $1500 is alot of freaking money for a HU with NAV...you could buy a damn nice HU, amp, sub etc for that kind of coin. Not to mention all the add-ons you need to buy for the z2

biggest downside is the disc has to be in for nav but u can take it out and it stores so much into memory and will make u put the disc back in if need be
d3 has a slightly smaller screen, but it has the aux jack on front, and the huge advantage to the d3 is an actual volume ****
IMO do the D3

If you've never had an AVIC-Z1 or Z2, you will love the D3. I have both the Z1 and a D3 and can never get used to having to change CD's or remove a DVD to insert the Nav disc in the D3. They are both great units but it is hard to justify an extra $800-$900 for a 30 gig hdd.

there is only 1 slot on the D3. You can enter your destination or search for a POI with the nav disc in and once the route is determined you can remove the nav disc and play a cd or dvd. If you want to add a waypoint or search for another POI along the way, you will have to re insert the nav disc.

For the difference in cash... grab an iPod and the Pio adapter. Use a good quality ripper and put your entire collection at your fingertips. You'll never miss the HDD from the Z2 and you'll never have to swap discs. And you'll have a portable music player to boot.

I love my D3. I don't really use the dvd function while driving anyway. I leave the Nav dvd in and just use my ipod. I bought my D3 new for $735.00 shipped from fleabay and the ipod adapter new for $25.00 shipped on flebay.

I Installed the D3 in my F-250 its just okay. Not as good as the one thats in the Vette or my wifes infinity. The bluetooth feature has problems won't work with some phones, you can"t voice dial, Pioneer says there working on it. Save your money get a better model.

IMO the D3 is better then the stock nav. Have you considered the Kenwood DNX7100 at all it is a bit more, but the nav is built in and its garmin based which makes the nav extremely user friendly

I've never been a big fan of Kenwood electronics, but Garmin nav is flat-out the best I've ever used. If I hadn't decided on the Alpine Blackbird-docking solution I'd have given the Kenwood serious consideration.

I have the D3 in my C6. Great unit for the money. I will be installing it in my new Sequoia and parents Yacht as well. The single disk slot is no big deal. I leave the NAV disk in and use a IPOD for all my music and movies. If it really bothers you pickup a cheap mobile DVD player and install in the rear cubby. Then you can have a DVD for movies and a slot for NAV.

The D3 is a nice unit but you might want to also consider the DNX7100. The NAV is built into it so you don't need a disc. I believe the iPod interface is quicker. It is an easy install. You don't have to connect to the VSS wire. Overall a great unit!
I ordered mine w/ shipping for less than $950 from this site:

If the DNX7100 was water-resistant I would put it in the boat & take her fishing.

Is there a cd changer that works with the Kenwood DNX7100? I am not into ipods Just like my cds.

They make two changers that hook up to the DNX7100. One holds 6 disc and the other holds 10 disc.

vss is vehicle speed sensor. also with mp3 cd's or mp3 dvd's you can fit tons and tons of music on one cd
kenwood has 6 or 10 disc
pioneer is 6 or 12 disc
