Default bose speaker question

Is it just me or does anyone kind of like their Bose system. I mean yeah it is getting close to 14 years old but I think it sounds pretty good. Also isnt Bose one of the better manufacturers of home audio, so shouldnt their car audio be just as good. I am asking because I was thinking about upgrading my system, it seems like it is just a big hassle to replace the speakers because then the factory amps will not drive other speakers, and if you put new speakers in without the amps will you not have to buy more amps for the speakers to sound decent because a 50x4 head unit wouldnt sound as good as how the factory set it up? (maybe Im wrong I havent tried it) If there is nothing wrong with the speakers and I am looking for more trouble then it is worth, I was thinking about replacing the head unit with a nice unit, maybe integrated with a DVD player, with rca outputs so that I could maybe hook up some kenwood KSC SW1 powered subs that I have seen (I was thinking about getting a rca splitter and putting one unit behind each seat so they are not seen). I know the kenwoods will not sound like a 12 in an enclosed box but they have gotten good reviews and I think they would add some more bass without the overkill of shatterred windows and shaking buildings. Sorry for the long post, if anyone has any opinions I would like to see what I am in for and what head unit might do what I am looking for while maybe still using the Bose speakers and adding the Kenwood units, thanks guys.

I am happy that I did away with the Bose. I've always had some sort of decent stereo in my rides and have come accustomed to good, clean music. Eventually the vette was going to go the same route.
Currently, I have a Kenwood in dash DVD, Kenwood Nav unit, JL 4x75 amp(under pass seat), JL 8" subs in factory rear locations and 6 1/2'' Infinity components in the front factory locations.
Not crazy loud, but sure sounds dam good and is light years ahead of Blose.

would your kenwood work with the original bose speakers. I am looking for a good unit that might be able to work with the existing speakers and maybe add those kenwoods, thanks so much. Infinity's do sound really good, had all infinity system in my last car thanks!

There are adapters available that will let you use the rest of the Bose sytem. A search of the archives should yield a part number. I think they are around $35.
