I'm trying to decide which to get. I have a Sony hu rated at 17 RMS powering the stockers in a Z06.
Would either of these work? Infinity Reference 3022 rated at 25 RMS or the Kappa 32.7 rated at 35 RMS. Not much difference in price, but I don't want to underpower them and lose volume.
Just wondering if I will lose a lot of volume with such little power.
Sounds like either of those speakers are going to be pretty under-powered without an amp.
Well, i've read several posts of people replacing the stock 3.5's with aftermarket. So, i'm wondering if it's at least better than stock and noticeably worth the switch for the price of around $50-$60 on ebay. If not, i'll just hold out and save for speaker plates, amp and components.

In my opinion I would wait and save for the speaker plates, amp, and components. This is the route I took.
By the way I have two Alpine amps for sale and I'll make you a good deal if your interested.
I need an affordable solution. I currently have stock speakers now with a Sony HU and JL 10w3 sub being pushed by a RF 500w Punch amp. (I was told this was a bit much for a 10, but it came with the car when I got it).
I just want a bit more volume and clarity from my highs.
What do I need to do to go to components? 4 ch. or 2 ch. amp? Would 2 ch. be able to power both 6.5 and tweeter or would it be a 4 ch.? And, what needs to be done to add an amp for fronts if I already have a sub amp wired in back? Would it involve running another power supply and speaker wires?

For a pair of components, you only need a 2 channel amp, and a crossover for each woofer/tweeter set. If you have a pair of components in front and a pair in back, you'd need two 2 channels or one 4 channel.

A 2 channel amp would be enough to push the 6.5 components or you can go with a 4 channel and go active (each 6.5 mid and tweet will be powered by its own channel). This is not for the novice.
As far as powering the amp is concerned if the other amp already has power, ground, and remote then I would do the following:
Install a power distribution block if the power wire used on the sub amp is large enough. Then run power from the distribution block to the sub amp and new 2 channel amp. Use the same ground point for both amps. Tap into the remote turn on lead being used for the sub amp. You will still need to run RCA's from the amp to the Head Unit and speaker wire from the components to the amp.

lots of people in here use the Ref's and report improvement. The Kappa's are a 2 ohm speaker that might be a little hard on the amp.
