I just had a Kenwood 7100 installed w/Sirius, The car is a 2007 C6 coupe Type 2LT with the base stereo/no Bose, No Onstar. However, upon installation of the 7100 it was noticed that the passengers side door woofer was out (no sound, either with OEM head unit or the Kenwood. The techs at the install shop also hit it with a tone and the result was no-go) It always sounded a little "tinny" to me since the car was new. This seems like it should be a warranty issue to me as it appears the darn thing never worked from the get-go. That aside, is the OEM door panel woofer self amplified? Or is it driven off the head unit. How much is a replacement if is shot and the dealer won't play? - they're already hemming and hawing when I brought up what was found. I have a service appointment with the Chevy dealer next Thursday. Just wondering what to expect.
In the non-Bose system the woofer is not self-amplified, but it's not driven by the head either. There is a Delco amp in the passenger footwell that drives all of the speakers.
As far as a replacement goes I have no idea what the price would be, but odds are there are lots of folks who have removed them and you could get one used with a wanted posting in the C6 parts section.
