Default C6Z stereo upgrade questions

Hello,

Is it possible to maintain steering wheel controls on the '07/'08 C6 Z06 if you upgrade the head unit?

I checked the FAQ and didn't see it. Crutchfield said they do not recommend upgrading this head unit.

The Pioneer APIC-D2 (I think this is what Nomad did a write up on - a very funny guy btw....) seems like a nice GPS/XM head unit. Does anyone have any opinions from personal experience with this Head Unit?

Thanks for taking the time to respond - I really appreciate it!

To maintain steering wheel controls in your 2007 Z06, you will need a part like this that works specifically for Pioneer and Sony units...

The D2 has been replaced by the D3 and I'm sure the D4 is in the works. As referenced in the previous post, PAC Audio (www.pac-audio.com) and Peripheral (peripheraleletronics.com) make modules that are specific to brands that you tie into the car's wires and plug into the heads. Those allow you to maintain the steering wheel controls. I know with PAC if you use their OEM interface as well there's usually a single wire you can tie the SW module to. I used their OS3Bose in my '07 Avalanche along with their SW module and it was very easy.
