Is it possible to hardwire an aux jack in a C5 without purchasing an add on like the peripheral kit? Just wondering if you can take the CD changer port and hardwire an aux jack to it?
I don't DD my car in the winter and don't want to have to buy a seperate kit for each car that I drive, otherwise I think I might end up with the FM transmitter .
There is a section that deals with adding an AUX input when you have a CD changer. It won't control the MP3 player, but you can tap into the audio signal this way.
If I were to make a change to this design, I would use a latching relay instead of a regular relay. Something like a Tyco KUL-11D15D12 should work... and use two push buttons to activate/deactivate the relay.

If you look hard, you might find a 3 or 4 pole switch and eliminate the relay. Also, it should be pointed out that in this diagram, the ground and shield are one in the same. For those who won't know what to do on the 3 conductor mini phone plug.
If you have the Cd Changer cable already installed, all you need is the AUX-BOX which can be founf on e-bay for around 30-50 bucks. Here is a link to what it is, but shop around.

I didn't even realize that there was a C5 FAQ in this section, I am not a big stereo guy so I don't come to this section too often. The diagram is what I was after, but I have a Z and hence no prewired CD changer. Realistically, I don't want a CD changer so if I can hardwire in its place that would be ideal, I will look into the schematic and see what I can make of it.
If anyone has added an aux port to their Z, I am all as to how they did it. I was hoping to just take the mini phone jack and hack it in some way and connect it to the stereo as the CD changer so to speak. Will see if this is feasable.
Thanks for the input, and keep it coming if you have any other ideas.
The auxbox just plugs into the CD changer's cable and thats it. It uses any RCA cable for sound. So if you want a 3.5mm earphone jack, just get a RCA to 3.5mm adapter from RS for $5.
