How do I tie into factory Blows unit in rear storage cubby to grab R & L outputs and power lead for a powered subwoofer? (1996 Vette)
Thanks!
I don't believe that there are any speaker out puts at the CDM. You will need to pick them up from the speakers. If you remove the speaker covers and pull the rug down, you will see the wires that run to the rear speakers. Using your FSM, you should be able to figure out what wires you need for the sub. Just use a wire tap to connect to the speaker wires, and you should be good to go.
Good luck
BTW, you may have to/want to run a seperate power wire from the battery for the powered sub, depending on how much power it needs.
On my '91 I got rid of the Bose amps and replaced them with a pair of nice JBLs mounted in the right rear hatch. This requires an interface unit between the existing stock Bose head unit and the JBL amps to get line level outputs. The interface that I obtained even has an adjustable 35 Hz boost for the rear speakers to compensate for the Bose equalization. (A sub amp can also be tied in here.)
I added some outboard tweeters to the existing Bose units (front and rear) as well as a 25-watt, 1 ohm resistor in series with the woofers. The existing woofers are only 1 ohm, and that is a very difficult load for any amp to push that couped up in a sealed air space to any loud level for any length of time. The 1 ohm resistors took care of this problem.
Using the system in this manner, we have not encountered the need to run a separate subwoofer. It's truly amazing how much bass the rear Bose speakers will push when properly amplified and equalized..., lots more thump than we can stand when in the car.
