Default SIR GM1 Install

I have an 05 coupe and my wife got me the SIR GM1 for Christmas. I read where some of the cars may be prewired even if they did not come with XM from the factory. I looked inside the driver wheel well but did not see any wiring that looked like the pictures in some of the threads. The best I can tell mine is not prewired. If not where would the SIR GM1 plug into the back of the head unit it is NAV with single disc CD and could you access it without removing the console. Would it be possible to access it by removing the glove compartment. As always thanks ahead of time really appreciate any feed back. Would like to install in the glove box if possible looks like there would be less disassembly there not really sure.

The SIR-GM1 is designed to connect via the factory XM connection and ONLY via that connection. It will not work via a CD changer connection. While it's audio output is simple analog stereo via 3 wires, the control is via the radio's XM connection. If the harness isn't there, then my suggestion would be to return that SIR-GM1 and go to plan B. Plan B could be a replacement head with Sirius module option or a portable unit. I recommend those because by the time you'd pay to have the correct harness installed you could probably have bought a new head unit.

Guessing only because I've never used one, but it *should.* The SIR-GM1 is designed to look just like the XM box to the stereo as far as control goes so they should be interchangable. However that doesn't mean there isn't some goofy software issue that might interfere. But best I can do is guess based on logic and that guess is yes, it'll work.

Thanks Komoman, I was hoping if not prewired there would be a plug in the back of the head unit and i would try to mount it in the dash somewhere. I don't have a multidisc changer just a single with NAV. Thanks again guess will have to try something else.

If you have the NAV, I'm pretty sure that the wiring harness is there somewhere. It might be tucked in somewhere, so I would suggest pulling the carpet on drivers side completely back. The harness is **suppose** to be located just behind the wheel well on the drivers side, but the installers could have left it hanging anywhere in that area.
