I am installing a sub and amp in my car and keeping the Bose speakers. The head unit is also factory. Can I tap into the rear speakers to get a signal or do I install an interface at the head?. The installer said they would install an RCA jack behind the head unit. I really don"t know anything about car audio so I want to make sure the install is done right.
Expansion amps and subs do require the RCA's from the head unit. The factory unit may have a o/p for subs, have the installer check or look at the manual for the head unit. If you can not run RCA's from the head to the subs or amps, you can wire in converters from the speaker wires, but have the installation place look at the impedance for units that will work.
Done this many times, you need the pacaoemvet1 http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pacaoemvet1.html
this gives you rca's behind the headunit. Splicing in at the headunit or behind the speakers will leave you with a highpassed signal meaning you wont have any bass. IMO buy the adapter do it right and be done with it
