Default How to install 8in sub woofer in an 85

I have an '85 and I want to install an 8in woofer in the storage compartments behind the seats. I am wondering if anyone has pictures, instructions or a webiste that may show how this can be done. Any useful information would be greatly appreciated. Or, if anyone has one they'd like to sell or trade, that would be great also.
Thanks in advance, Bob

Try posting this question in the Audio/Electronics section of the forum. You'll have much better luck getting a response. As for looking for a sub, check all the for sale sections and post a WTB... 8" Subwoofer thread.

Don't forget to try the search function!!!!!!!!!!!
I know there's a guy on here who put a 10" in his passenger cubby hole behind the seat.

build a frame that will fit on the inside of the compartment and make sure that your 8" fits tight. check with local radio shops to see how porting would affect your sound. some ppl recommend porting for more/less bass-i dunno-i dont have one in my car. but it should sound great!! good luck

I would not use the fiberglass as the enclosure. There is plenty of enough room for a nice 8" in a box built to fit in there. Sealed enclosure is the way to go. Want more bass? Fill the box with polyfill, it tricks the sub into thinking it's in a bigger enclosure.

If I were to go that route, I'd get the 8" square shaped Kicker Solobaric. By far the hardest hitting 8" you can buy. I've heard a car with one 8" in a really good box and it hit as hard as any 10 or even 12"!

I'd be easy to build a box and set a JL WO 18" subwoofer in it for the cargo area. With the right size amp, your vison will be blurry when the bass hits.

Do an advanced search in the general section. I remember someone doing the 8" project a year or two ago with pics.

It is possible to install two 8" speakers into the rear of a C4 coupe. Check out the C4 FAQ sticky in the Audio section for details.

Send a pm to forum member deiaggie. He was building boxes that were a direct fit fot the storage bin behind the seat. I believe they were 0.45 cu ft. He might could give you the dimensions for it. The amp is best put behind the pass seat.

I actually did that, only its a 18" jbl sub in a ported box
that takes up pretty much the whole rear hatch - and renders the
storage compartments usless.

a big 10 - 4 on the blurry vision, and forget about using any of the mirrors, they shake too much to see thru when playing at any volume above 1/4
im going to a "sound off" competion soon to be tested in db.
hoping for high 120's to low 130's hahahahah.

im gona love to see the faces of those guys when I roll up in my vette
and hand them some crazy bass from such an un suspecting car.
