I have a 03 Vert and I want to fill the center well with a 10" Sub.
I noticed the official JL Stealthbox has a better design than some of the other makers on here. I know the alternatives are cheaper in price, but good quality.
With it being a convertible, I want to have the trunk space and use the factory lid for that well. I noticed the JL was very recessed and seems like it would fire with the lid on.
I know I'll be cutting down the sound with the lid on, but I want to have the option of putting my golf clubs in the trunk without hurting my sub.
Also, anyone have a better dealer than crutchfield @ $649.99?
What is thought of the sub that is packaged with this box, A 10" JL Audio W3v3 4Ω subwoofer?
Thanks in advance for the help.
The sub is my first step in redoing this sound system. Waiting on the Kenwood 8210 to be released in March before I get a C5kidd DD and HD.
I suggest you take a look at this web site. Dave makes a fine stealth box and a replacement compartment cover that has a grill for the sub allowing the sound to pass through but still offers a finished look and is as strong as the stock cover. I have each. He can also get you a good deal on the sub. I purchased a new JL 10W3V2 off the auction site for $99.
I built my own stealth box for my car but I did put a JL 10w3v3 in it. I have been extremely happy with the sub.
As for the box, IMO the JL box is a nice piece, but over priced. Like I said I built my own, and that was kinda a pain since I had to make a couple guesses at the angle to use on the front. My suggestion would be look for a NVTHIS thread.. he makes stealth boxes and from everything I have read people are really happy with them.. and MUCH cheaper than the JL version. I started to just buy mine from him, but I kinda liked the idea of being able to say I did my install stuff myself.
I have spoken with both NVTHIS AND SUBTHUMP, but I just want to make the most educated decision I can from those that have had these products in a Vert.
Sounds like you'd want that cover no matter what stealthbox you had, for better sound.
My question is with the vert and the angle of the sub in the JL box do you get a better sound? I noticed the alternative stealthboxes fire more straight up.

What amp is pushing your sub Bentley?
I am using a Hifonics Zeus 6406 amp. All and all I am pleased with the amp, but it is the one thing I would replace in a heartbeat too. It pushes plenty of power and to my untrained ears provides a nice clean sound. The things I dislike about it are mainly just the size of the amp itself. It is behind my passengers seat and it just takes up to much room.
You can look at my sig for a link to my carPC install to see what all I put into the system and the install. Just keep in mind that I have not updated the pictures since I got the subbox to fit right.. so the one in the pics does not have the cover over it.
