BTT - after having that JVC unit in your car for little while now, how is it working for you? I'm considering getting one like that for mine. Is yours the one with the 3.5" screen? Can you see enough with it?

Hijacking a little,
I've got the JVC AVX33 which is similar. I just went on a long trip and it overheated and the line level outputs started acting up. I had been driving about 5 hours before that happened. I have the rear speakers running off the internal amp so I just turned the internal amp off and it worked for the rest of the trip.
The unit has settings for off/low power/high power for the internal amp and I had it set to low power all last year and didn't have a problem but I had a dead battery and it reset itself to high power which may have added to it overheating. At any rate, it did have trouble and it should not have. I'm probably just going to leave it off and not use the rears anymore.
Overall though, I like the unit. The screen is OK to watch if you're only doing it every once in a while. I feel the unit has a nice easy to read display for music. As you are selecting songs though it displays mp3 files by file name and not tag info though so you need to give some thought to the file structure you use. After selecting the song, it will display the tag info as it plays. I put the songs on a memory stick in directories by artist with the song name as the file name and it works great. It doesn't support sub directories - well, it will let you access them but the sub directory just appears in the directory list, not under the directory it is in. I do have to go through the setup to change the file type on a mixed disc (ie music and video) which could be a bit of a pain but I rarely use mixed discs or USB sticks.

if you have the rear speakers wired 4ohn stereo and hooked up to the left-green green/black right-purple purple/black i don't see why you had a overheat problem. even if you were pounding the system the radio channels should have come back on after the internal amp cooled down in a few minutes....hmmmmm
My schematic says Brn/Yel and Dk blue/Lt blue for the 2 rear speakers but it does power them so they are connected right.
I'd say the thing does not get enough air in the Vette dash. It was damn hot when it started acting up. Turning the internal amp off seemed to help with the temperature.

I have the same HU and havnt had any problems at all. And I pound the heck out of it on road trips (works better than coffee ). I think the screen looks great. Your close enough that 3.5 is easily viewable, and it has a real clear picture and good contrast for navigating the menu.
