Pioneer head unit problem
I have a pioneer premier head unit aproximately 4 years old. Worked fine. Stored for 1 year in dry clean basement. Installed into car (subaru outback winter beater). While installing and testing for speaker location etc. I found that only the strongest radio signals come in and when the radio body touches ground, all radio signal is lost. Not static but almost no sound at all. CD's playing sound great and are not affected. Anyone experience this before? Could it be a short or open in the antennae coax? Pioneer dealer had no helpful info but went right to "bring it in" and pay lots of money of course.

I just finally got off my *** and did some basic elimination. I pulled the stereo out and hooked it up into another car and it worked fine. All the weak stations came in and there was no cut-out when I grounded it to the frame. So I guess the antennae or coax in the first car is bad. The reason why is still unknown but I now know where the problem lies.

I traced the coax to look for a short/chafe to metal. Found aproximately 14" away, coax has a plug/disconnect that had pulled apart. Plugged back in and all is good. So it was an open antennae circuit.
