So I figured you guys would know about this, even though I'm not asking in regards to my Vette.
This would be for a 2008 Mazda3, but it's a more general question regarding custom speaker mounts. The factory front speaker is a 6x8, but Im trying to fit a 6.5 in there, which I know fits.
Question is, when I called Tweeter, they said they would make a "custom mount/plate" or whatever so that sounded cool.
However, after getting the car back and looking at the job they did at home, they didn't make any type of custom plate. What they did was use the 6x5 ring and screwed it into the opening for the 6x8. Obviously this left open space, for which they simply used some kind of black, heavy duty tape to cover up. WTF is that?
I'm no expect but that really seems like a half-assed way of doing it. Not only does it seem like it's not the most secure thing to do, but I'm betting that's not the best way to get the best sound response from the speakers. Why in the hell would they do that?
I'm probably going to call them up tomorrow and ask what the deal is, but I figured you guys might have some advice/tips or be able to tell me if this type of thing is common or what.
oh thats completely unacceptable. when i installed at circuit city id have ppl alot that would want a 6.5 instead of a 5x7 and i always cut a baffle from 1/4. if they wanna charge u extra id throw a **** fit and bitch to management request a refund or something and fit it urself. trace old speaker onto 1/4 trace hole for new speaker and cut out and bam shouldnt take long at all. if you dont have access to jigsaw ill make em for ya and mail em
