Default Changed front speakers - C5Z

Well, I said I would post pics when I changed out the front speakers, so here goes..

First, the empty hole... for those that haven't already seen this.

The old Bose setup:

The only wires I needed from this plug are the two on top - the gray and tan. I just used the stub wires that came with the speakers (since I haven't amped the speakers...yet) and folded over the ends, then soldered them to make a flat solid that would be a snug fit in the plug. I took this pic without the flash because with the flash you can't see the colors! It's a bit fuzzy because I couldn't hold the camera still enough for a clear pic.

After plugging in the other wire and taping it all up.

The mounting plate. I made these from 1/2" MDF and painted them black so they wouldn't show through the grill and for moisture protection. Probably should have put on a few more coats - that MDF really sucks up the paint - but I was running out of time (the Z is my DD).

And with the Pioneer speaker mounted. I was surprised that the silver screws didn't show through the grill. If they had I was going to paint them black.

Well, that's about it. They sound a LOT better than that little 3 1/2" twiddler, and maybe even better than the original Bose setup. I think the highs are more defined.

I will be replacing the rears as soon as I get the speakers. I probably won't bother posting those, unless someone requests it.

I hope someone found this useful, or at least interesting.
