Well after looking at the pile of boxes in my living room for almost 2 months now, I have finally been home long enough to install my new stereo. I have never installed navigation, but there are several great write ups on this forum and I installed my AVIC-Z2 without a single problem. I ordered the driver and passenger side sub boxes from Audio Dave and installed JL Audio 10w1V2 in them. I replaced the door speakers with Polk Momo 6.5 components and the rear speakers with the Momo 5.25 coax. Ran the 4 gage power down the passenger side and all of the signal wire down the center and to the driver side of the rear. Plugged everything in and started rocking with no engine whine. The best part is that you will never be able to tell that anything is in the rear with the window tint and stretchy fabric thingy that covers the rear.
If anyone has any second thoughts on ordering the sub box from Dave at madvettemotorsports, I can tell you, that you will be extremely pleased with the quality of the box and if you opt for the JL sub extremely pleased with the quality of the sound (I can't vouch for something I haven't heard). I listen to all kinds of music, but mostly rock and those 2 10's back there beat my hear holes to death
Thanks to everyone that has documented their installs and made it a snap for the rest if us. This forum kicks @$$ and so do corvettes!!
There is about a 12" space between the 2 boxes, which is perfect to bring the wire under the amp. The amp is screwed into both boxes to lock it all together.
As far as too much bass, I think it's just right. I like to have more speakers and a larger amp with the gain turned down to keep the sound as clean as possible at all volume levels. With that being said, I wouldn't use 2 10's with the rest of the factory setup. I have 100w going to the door components to balance the sound. I can only turn my head unit up to about 30, before my ear drums start to implode. I was a little nervous about a single amp with 5 channels being able to drive everything, but I could not be happier, with the quality of sound and as you said, the simple and clean look of the install. That JL Audio 500/5 is impressive. My vette is my daily driver and I need the back for books and bags. I have seen some installs take up the entire back end or at least a big part of it. I am no audiophile, but I think this is a sweet setup and am extreamly happy with it.
