Default z2 radio reception help needed

hi, i have been enjoying my ipod on my recent z2 install... tried to use the radio for AM radio the other day and can barely pull in local stations and it sounds really weak... it's only a bit better with FM....

my installer said that the antenna was connected,,,, does anyone have any knowledge of what might be the problem... i thought i read a post about some line amplifier or something but couldnt find it in search i have a z2 in 08 Z06...

thanks, Neveo

Does sound like a antenna problem. Did you pull the HU and see?
I installed my Z2 just last week, reception is great.

The problem you're running into is that the antenna amplifier is not getting triggered. Most cars have steel bodies which can be, and are, used as antennas to aid reception. Our cars do not have that big antenna surface area so they have included an amplifier. Removing the stock radio removes the trigger.

What most folks have done is take the power antenna lead, get a voltage regulator to drop the voltage from 12 to 5V and tie it off to the trigger on the antenna amp. Now that I've said all that you're saying "ok, cool, so what do I need to do?" Well here's where I get hazy because I haven't done it myself so I haven't retained the how in my brain. I *think* there's a thread listed in the C6 Audio FAQ, which you'll find a link to in my signature just below.

Hope this gives you a place to start searching anyway.

I have a D3 with bad reception with FM and no AM , I have not pulled it yet to take a peak. I am thinking the reducer cable for the antenna is bad,?? I have a 04 , has the antenna on the windshield and I had no issues with this on the stock system .
