Default C5 Center Console

Just wondering if anyone knows how to remove the aux 12V power in the center console of a c5. I never use the aux power and would like to feed a cable for my ipod through the hole so I don't have to drill a hole in the center console. Has anyone removed this?

Once the console is out, you just turn the entire plug from the back until the two tabs on the side line up with the slot at the top, turn it eather way until one tab lines up, tilt that tab out threw the slot and continue turning until the other tab lines up.

I have a dock connector Ipod cable that will just fit threw the hole. I drilled a small hole under the plug and put a rubber gourmet around it.
Hope this helps, Mark

Hi Mark,

That is exactly what I was after. I imagined that it would twist off but didn't have time to check prior to having to prepare for my trip. I can't say this enough, but this forum is awesome. Pretty much any question I have gets answered promptly.

Next is figuring out how to get the radio out, although I am sure I can find that through the search function. Although if it doesn't tell me which way to turn the bolts, with pictoral illustrations, to open it up I might have to make a new thread.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'll post some pics when I get my drive + play installed.

BTW, if all you want to do is run a cable through there, you dont need to take the lighter out.

Look at the picture, the little divit in the center of the top is for exactly what you want to do. You run the cable through the console, then under the air bag/ traction control pop out and press it into that divit there and snap the air bag / traction control pop out back in. The Door to the center compartment closes fine with the cable resting in the divit.

Of course you are going to have to open the center console to access the ipod. You ever think of mounting an ipod cradle in the cup holder that no one uses as a cupholder? Would allow you to pop the ipod in and still have access to the controls.

If you plan on using the ipod just as a hard drive (and controlling it from a new head unit) you might want to consider just running a shorter cable into the glove box and leave it there.

Good luck.
