Look like I'm going to stick with something in the Kenwood lineup. I'm looking around at what's available in a 2007 model. Looks like most of them have the aux & USB inputs on the rear. yeah, THAT'S real convenient.
That's pretty much a deal breaker for me then. I'm still trying to figure out why they can't make a radio with 2 ***** and some buttons.
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this Kenwood. Looks like a little step up from the one I posted earlier. Still has the front Aux & USB ports. Actual buttons on the front. Just a little more $$ than those above ($170)
Is it generally a panel-mount sorta pigtail, or just loose?
I'm making a custom panel for my car. I was thinking that if it was rear mount, I could put in panel-mount USB and mini-plug
On my Alpine, it's a jack on the back just like on my PC but it comes with a long cable that I have loose in the ashtray.
Your idea would work great! Just get a USB jack from a computer and connect the wiring. If you are making a custom panel, you could put it exactly where you want it.
Hey Pentavolvo, turns out you were right after all, the units do piggy back, just the ipod will always be last in the chain. The Kenwood guy on the phone yesterday sounded kinda iffy, so after work today i dropped by Fry's electronics. Asked the sales guy, and he showed me on the blue tooth unit where it piggy backs. Sure enough, got home and installed the ipod cable to the sirius unit in less than 15 minutes.
For any one wondering im using last years Kenwood unit 435 with the usb on the front, I highly recommend it.
You mentioned wanting a radio with just 2 ***** and buttons. Have you looked at the radio's Ecklers has? More of a C3 OEM look with modern guts.
I meant a volume **** and a tuning ****, not a real old-style look. I'd rather not pay double for a POS radio that just happens to fit my gauge panel. I'm planning on redoing the entire gauge panel anyhow, so I might as well get something halfway decent in there.
I ended up going with the Kenwood Excelon 591. Last years model. Picked it up for about $130
Getting something with the USB input was really the key. 1200 miles to & from Bowling Green and a 4Gb USB drive was awesome
