I should receive my new D3 next week and I want to finally start building my stereo. I'm going to do the sub box from Boxology with probably a JL sub in it, but I'm not sure what speakers I'm going to use in the rest of the car. I've read numerous posts that state the rears should just be turned off, ok. Now comes the hard part....
Who has a system installed in their C6 and can recommend nice component speakers for the doors? I read the write up by Spkrboy but to tell you the truth it went right over my head. I think he was saying the Seas CA18RNX and Vifa D26NC55 will be better than the focal speakers for less money, but I know nothing about these speakers. I'm not looking to pay Focal prices, but I want a set of component speakers that will sound good that have a crossover.
Also, I'm going to buy an amp, probably the Alpine PDX 4.150. Is this strong enough to run the doors & the sub? Is the head unit strong enough to run the doors? If not should I buy 2 amps?

So, any recommendations from experience?
Thanks

This sounds close to what I did.
This is what I have and it sounds great.
1 Alpine PDX 4.150 (mounted behind passenger seat)
1 Boxology enclosure with JL sub 10w3v3
1 JL front component Zr 650
Remove rear speakers
Center speaker only used to power Onstar
ALpine IVA W505 Head Unit
If you can wait a week or two Spkrboy should have the crossover ready to go. He built and installed them in my car yesterday and he's bringing it back today. He thinks the tweeter may need to be padded a db or 2 down but overall he's very pleased. I can't wait to hear it!
He's going to see if he can come up with a simplified design and I believe it's his intent to provide a component list and the diagrams necessary to make them yourself. If he thinks he has time, he may build a few of them and sell them through a forum vendor complete as well, then you'd just have to buy the drivers from Madisound.
Though I bet your system sounds awesome I think it may be a little too nice for me. In his last write up he mentions that it is really good for classical & jazz & not rock. Well I listen to almost all rock & sports talk radio, so I don't know how those speakers would fare. Though if I start to peice together my system and can't find a set of components I like with a crossover I may inquire and see if he'll build me one.

WOW, those JL ZR 650's are expensive! I bet they sound great but I'm looking to pay a little less, say in the $200's.
