Default Two General MP3 Questions, Pioneer

Ok, So I got the Pioneer 4000-UB for the vette. It of course plays MP3 Cd's, my problem Is The sound quality is poor at best, and for the life of me I cant figure out where I am losing the quality. Is there a certain Bitrate you look for on MP3's? like only over 224? Is it where the MP3 came from or what? where do you guys get your good quality MP3's from. The other question is, what software do you use to burn said MP3 cd's? Thanks in advance! P.s. I have 4 polk Db651 in the 01 C5 Coupe.

The bit rate when ripping the MP3 is very important, yes, but so is the encoder, not all are created equal. For the actual burning, the program doesn't matter so long as it's not re-encoding the files and just burning them to CD/DVD, so Nero is fine.

The majority of my MP3's are ripped from my CD's using Exact Audio Copy with the REACT script. It uses the LAME MP3 encoder using variable bit rate. VBR gives you a nice balance of sound quality and file size.

FYI - as long as you are using some sort of lossy compression, MP3's will NEVER sound as good as a CD. You can get them close, especially in a noisy car environment, but as long as the compression scheme is lossy, you will never have perfection reproduction of the original.

Check your manual for the deck I beleive it works like my P5000Ub and you can actually write the mp3's onto it using a the storage format and it will pull them off the cd this way. if you burn them to the disk in thsi format you will not need to worry about burning them to the disk in the proper rate plus you will be able to hold twice as many songs

Check out the HydrogenAudio forum for advice on which programs and settings to use for ripping MP3s. I'm reworking my library now, to my ear the sound quality is almost transparent.
