Default 1.5 din head unit in C5

has anyone done a 1.5 din install? there are plenty of pictures of 1 or 2 din installs here. I want to put in a single Din reciever and a 1/2 din audiocontrol. from the looks of it I'll still need an adapter of some kind due to the width of the stock radio, looks like its slightly wider than a standard Din. if anyone knows what I need to make this work, please let me know!

thanks,

The Pioneer is the only one worth using, IMHO. It is a stright forward 1.5 din radio.

Very easy to do, and there have been a few posted here on the forum.

All you need is an install kit. There are many different brands (Metra, Scosche, and others) that have the option of a single DIN HU along with a 1/2 DIN slot. I'll look around tomorrow and see if I can find one on-line.

thanks! I'll also look here more extensively to see if I can find a 1.5 din install. I've always liked Alpine for their ergonomics and modularity (I can pull the disc shuttle out of my other car and use it in the vette until I buy one for it also etc) but one thing that I think every system absolutely needs is a subwoofer gain ****. its not good enough to have it in a menu in the head unit, I want to have a **** for easy access. my tastes in music are widely varied and range from rap to christian to classical to talk. obviously depending on what I'm listening to the settings on the system must be varied frequently, especially for the subwoofer!

thanks for the help!

I knew I had seen it here before!

Check out TheRadioFlyers install. He is using a 1 DIN Alpine HU and a 1/2 DIN Audio Control unit.

(The Alpine unit in his dash has a motorized face, so that's why it looks like it is sticking out of the dash. A 'regular' DIN HU would not look like that.)

You might PM him to see where he got it. I'll go check to see if I can find it somewhere.

Maybe something like this?

Sonic Electronix has it for $9.99

Here is a big multi-kit:

Sonic Electronix has it for $9.99

Either one looks like it will work... let me know if this helps.

thanks fasthotrod! that's exactly what I plan to do. I even found a universal GM pontiac kit which looks just like that one and I should have no problem getting everything installed.
