Ok I searched and either didn't read right or couldn't find my answer to this simple question....For now I want to just replace the front speakers. Can I just swap them out keeping the stock HU and wiring etc without doing anything else? I saw where that is a decent 1st step upgrade so any help would be great. Also should I go with a component setup with the tweeters?
I thought this was covered in the C5 FAQ at the top of the main page, but it may not be very clear.
Do you have Bose?
If so, a simple upgrade is a 3.5" co-axial speaker set. You will keep the Bose 8" woofers.
If you want to replace the woofers too, then you need to pixk a nice 2-way system, and buy an adapter to make the new speakers work with the stock system. You will also meet to buy/build adapter plates for the new speakers.
I would write more, but I'm sitting in a bar in Chicago drinking a beer. Hopefully I have pointed you in the right direction...

Thanks Mark...yeah the FAQ wasn't real clear. All it says is
"How Can I get better sound while keeping the bose head unit?
Upgrade speakers
The easiest way to get better sound from the stock head unit is to simply swap out the in door 'twiddlers' with after market 3.5” speakers. You also have the option of swapping out the rear speakers with 5.25” speakers for the frc/z06 and convertables, and a 6.5" speaker for the coupes"
But wasn't sure if we reused the existing wiring etc. Do you know if just swapping the tweeters with new 3 1/2 inchers helps that much? Is there a certain brand or model to get. Thanks again oh and have an extra beer on me
In listening to my stock (for only one more week) system. I would say that a nice set of 3 1/2 would add some better treble. Once in a great while with the right song, I'm happy with the stock system, but most of the time it just seems muddy.
I say bite the bullet and do a full system. Just about any budget you choose could create a system to out perform the factory bose.
I'm looking at the same type of upgrade for now. what type of adapter is needed for running a 6.5 component set up front? I have the mounting plates already.
I am not doing a full system yet, bcs I am waiting for a decent H/U that has no CD, and is more media based (Hard drive, SD slot, USB), but NOT iPod biased.

This is almost the same route I was thinking of. What is the adapter we need to just replace the fronts with components?
You can deff just replace fronts and keep them on stock headunit. You can remove the entire bose piece and put in whatever you want and run it off the factory headunit. It may not be ideal but it will wokr. You will loose bass output
