I'm looking for a 1F cap for my system. I've always thought a cap is a cap is a cap. Anyone have any favorites or reasons why one brand/type is the best? Looking for a 1F unit to support an alpine PDX-5.
mainly to stop the dreaded light dimming issue. Without getting into the math of some of the other threads here (I have a CE background and understand the argument) IMO a cap will solve the transient power draw issues.
Not to be dismissive but I didn't ask if I needed a cap I asked assuming I've already decided to get one, are there any significant differences between brands/models?
From my experiences they are mostly price and aesthetics. I would stay away from pure budget brands due to questionable construction as I have seen a few that have "deteriorated" over time.
...are there any significant differences between brands/models?
Yes, there are. The most important spec to look for is the voltage rating. I've seen some rated at 12 volts which isn't high enough and others at 24 volts which is way overkill (there's no advantage at voltages higher than the charging system). 14-16 volts is where it needs to be. Cheap ones will have lower voltage ratings.
