I installed a switch on my power antenna wire from my head unit (aftermarket pioneer CD player). I tried it a couple of times and it worked! BUt then it blew the inline fuse! Why? if i just replace the fuse will it just happen agin. I checked all my sodering points and they were all ok and covering in duct tape. Any help is greatley appreciated.

PS
could my switch be rate for too many amps? I checked the switch in my house witha light bulb and battery and the switch is still good.
What is the switch supposed to do? What aftermarket deck model is it? BTW, don't use duct tape. Very bad. Use either black electrical tape or better still heat shrink which you can buy anywhere. Crimps are far easier and just about as reliable as soldering. Solder is the best however.
Thanks Guys
I went down to radio shack and got set of .5amp fuses to replace the blown one. But this time i got short blow fuses instead of fast acting ones. And now it works perfectly. Antenna goes up when i tell it and down when i tell it! Ahh another job done :-) and all for under 5 dollars. Doing work yourself is great.
It may still blow on you. The wire is meant to send a signal to trigger a relay. It would not be meant to be used to power an antenna or to light up a switch. Also, why did you install the switch to begin with if you have an pioneer aftermarket deck? The deck should have an antenna wire out the back that will only make the antenna go up when the radio is on and will not activate the antenna when you play CDs or tapes. Unless it is over 10 years old which means its probably time to splurge the $200 and get a new deck. Those switches were meant to be used with a bose system because they didn't do this. Just another failing of the stock systems. Would have cost them ten cents to add this but they were to cheap.
If your deck doesn't have this wire, the switch is fine. If it is lighted, I would up it to a 3 amp fuse. If it powers the antenna, add a relay and peace of mind. If it overheats, you have a fire and no vette.
If your deck has this wire, throw the switch out the window at the first civic with a wing you see.
