Default C5 Double Din Install questions

I see pictures of people removing the upper bracket and turning it over. But what about the lower bracket? I seem to be getting a little inference with the HVAC control trying to get the bezel in place that I got from C5KIDD. I'm using a PIONEER AVIC-D3. Should I just take it out and discard it, or relocate it?

I got a harness adapter today. What is the other plugs on the OEM radio for? Do those not get used?

Mine was a Z2 HU, but I think yours is the same. Just remove the lower bracket. You will need the room to get the HVAC back and the PAC harness in.

If I remember, the PAC plugs into one of the radio harness wires and the other one (small one) is abandon. Good luck. Mark

I did the Z2. Just take the top one out and discard it. The HU will be held in place just fine with the mounting hardware on the side of it; no need to turn over the top metal support and re-install it.

I left the bottom one where it was and it did not get in the way. The HVAC is not deep enough to need it out of the way.

I ended up having to remove the bottom one. It was hitting just a tad. I turned the top one over and band sawed the lip off. It's probably not even needed for support, but it's there.
Now to the wiring.

If you could, please explain the head unit support and how you connected the head unit to bracket for support???

For me I did my entire Z2 unit with new amp, sub, soundproofing, etc.. But I saw the job of getting the head unit perfectly in where it belonged in the new bezel as one difficult thing I didn't have to do to get it perfect. I took it to a local high end automotive audio installer. Everything was in and working EXCEPT the head unit was not installed and the HVAC needed to be installed lower than stock.

They did the final install and it was perfectly where it belonged. I gave him a $30.00 tip for doing it and he was happy with that. I have had it apart for different reasons since it was done. What he did was use two metal straps on each side of the unit where the unit has mounting bolts for the strips. He bent them right to go on the metal housing. The trick was to get it right in the center and up and down and front to back.

I just knew it would be a big pain for me to do it and I also knew those guys did it every day. Very important to get it right as it is what you look at all the time. I felt it was money well spent.
