I am searching for the speedo wire...I know it is A7 circuit 813 or something, but don't have a clue what that means...anyone know how to find it, or have a pic...I have disassembled the lower dash to get to some of those wires, but not quite finding what I need! Need help!
I found it, this was for a C5, had to pull the instrument panel out, and it is back there in the big connector on the left hand side of the instrument panel!
Wish I had known...scary, but I have the experience now...no one told me...also, that little tidbit doesn't seem to be in the forum...with more of these mods happening, the where of that equation would be most helpful!
When I did mine I found that you can wiggle your hand up in there and disconnect the wiring harness from the cluster, then pull it down enough to tap the wire -- no need to remove the actual gauge cluster. It's still a bit of a tricky reach, though.
on the c6 its really nice the whole piece surrounding the gauges pulls right off, u undo 4 bolts and the gauges pull right out and theres tons of room to splice in for VSS and its a straight shot to pass it over to the radio
It seems like you guys did alot of work to find this wire.
I just did my AVIC-D3 install this weekend and found a much easier location. The stock radio gets a signal from the vehicle speed sensor to adjust the SCV (speed controlled volume) It you look at the big plug for the stock radio you will see a green wire in there with it. That is the vehicle speed sensor. I tapped mine from there and it works beautifully. I can go to the gauges screen on the D3 and it gives me my speed almost exactly to whats on the HUD.
If you used a PAC adapter, soundgate adapter or other kind of adapter it is the only green wire that doesnt have something to match up to on the other side.

Unreal! Felt like I went through hell for that wire! Awesome bro...I am sure this will be very helpful...should find its way into the sticky department!
LOL Yeah, I need sound system install for dummies!
Btw Penta, thank you for the recommendations...all came in and looks good. My avic D3 is installed, speaker box is built, speaker is in, waiting on the amp (should arrive tomorrow), and going to run wires today. If you have any helpful, time saving tips on that (even the obvious ones ), I am all ears
pull the battery and use the factory grommet to pass your wire into the car, you have to pull down the piece under the glovebox, its a few plastic pins. be careful with the piece that wraps around with carpet closest to the tunnel when you pull it out
Just take your time and dont rush it and you will be fine. Ground to either the ground under the passenger or driverside rearish sail panel, piece right next to the seat back, or to one of the seat mounting bolts

The amp I am getting is the 400MSX, are you suggesting I mount it behind the passenger seat? I sent a PM...
you can mount behind passenger seat or on back wall or wheever u want for that matter. i always ground to a seat bolt or the factory ground under the pillar regardless of amps location
Thanks, the ground wire that came with the amp is really short, but I'll find a way to ground it! Thanks for all of the teaching and advice, not nearly difficult as my imagination was making it! I am all complete except for mounting the amp (arrives tomorrow) and rebuilding the bezel!
