Default Question on install cost for my setup

Here is the plan:

AVIC F90BT headunit $1100
Alpine PDX4.15 $650
gmk382 double din kit $26
Dynamat extreme bulk $270
JLA 4AWG amp wire kit $100
JLA 4 channel twisted pain 18' $100
OS3Bose Pac $189
GM antenna adapter $13
BOYO licence plate camera $280
SWIPS PAC steering wheel adapter $80
JL Stealthbox with upgraded 10W3v2 $650
Pioneer XM tuner $120

I am also having them install the Focal polyglass 6.5VR set that I previously purchased.

Install price for all of the above is $1200 which includes dynamat on both sides of the doors, kick panels and rear hatch.

Is this a reasonable cost for this setup and equipment?

I'm only using the front components and the sub which is to be bridged with the 2 rear channels.

I know that I can purchase the individual items a little cheaper on line, but not by enough to make up for the additional cost of labor.

Any comments on this setup are welcome.

Mike

It's $80/hr and they are figuring 6-8 hrs of dynamat alone. Is that too much?

I've dynamated my 73 in the past, but that was a car that I could take my time with and keep the entire interior out for a long time. I need this one back asap, it's my DD.

Does the parts list look reasonable?

some of the parts seem real high to me, id cross reference with other retail pricing maybe cruthchfield just to see, IMO if ur spendin that much they should give u a break on pricing

6-8 hrs sounds way high for deadening the doors and hatch... why are u deadening the kickpanels

It was their recommendation, not my idea. Is that unnecessary?

Check out www.sonicelectronix.com and "Audio Club" on Ebay.

The price on that PDX is what stuck out to me. I Just did my system with a PDX 1.600 and 2.150, picked them up for $310 and $289 if I remember correctly, both off that ebay store!

personally i would get something other then dynamat or atleast buy it on ebay for way less. install the deadner yourself. pull one door panel and do that entire door. next day do the other and just span it over a few days. save you alot of money right there.

Prices that seem stupid high to me include pdx amp, 0s3 bose adapter, wiring and maybe that camera

I'm going in to talk to the owner this afternoon.

I can save almost $1000 just buying the stuff on line. I do want the warranty of the work though.

Another local shop will install it all regardless of where I buy it for less. I don't know their work though.

I'll let you know what the owner says after I talk to him.

Just install it yourself a save a crapload of cash :-) I'm driving mine around with no carpet or trim panels and only 1 seat right now until I finish my stereo install.

Install the insulation yourself.

The door will take a long time, if your going to do a good job. Just buy the insulation and do the insulation in parts (section per day).

There is no quick way around quality insulation, I did my whole car and it took me close to a month but I did take my time.

Not to throw this install shop under the bus, but if you are going to pay someone to dynamat your ride, I would advise standing in the shop and watching. Seen 3 friends (before they knew better) pay for dynamat that was never installed

As for the component prices, I know for sure that pdx amp price is way high. Shoud be $425 or less (I paid less a year ago, and they have come down since then) so do some research on those prices.

G'luck

Thanks for the advice.

I went to talk to today armed with the cost of the items from various sources. He got the price down on most of the items so that it is close to the cost from online sources, but still a little markup.

As for the dynamat, I don't have time to do it myself and if they are taking the door panels off anyway I figure that I'll save myself the irritation of doing it over the weekends for months. So, I'm buying the bulk kit on line and having them do the doors with it. Then over the winter I'll do anything else that I want to on the car.

I am getting the rest of the stuff through them and although it is going to cost me more to buy the stuff on line, after talking to a couple of other local installers, it isn't too far off.

People that have used this installer in the past have given them rave reviews. So, we'll see. Approx $4000 total now. Better, but still expensive.

The biggest question is how to hide the cost from my wife?
Maybe I'll send her out shopping

Sounds more reasonable to me. You won't see online prices from retailers very often as they have a shop and employees and other business overhead that most online people don't have.

G'luck with the install and system, and of course with the SO

She's cool with it.

I explained that I'd rather spend my spare time with her, rather than soundproofing the car.

Default Some people just don't get it.

It's your money, spend it how you want. Do you think he's not going to eat for 6 months cuz he spent all his $ on a radio?
