Equipment Suggestions for a 2002 Coupe
I plan to upgrade my 2002's stereo... I have read 99HT's post and have actually performed this procedure on my old 99 Coupe... at that time I just used old speakers that I had laying around but I am going all new this time(maybe used EBAY)
I want the following for around $1000??
1) 5CH Amplifier with at least 500W
2) Front Component Speakers
3) Rear Coax
4) Subwoofer...12 inch or 2 10's?
Please suggest the type of speakersI could get for that amount....
I am not an audiophile so I dont want top-of-the-line speakers since I have never found a stereo system that warranted more than $1000 to me in a car w/o it including some type of Screen for Video or Navigation... and in a car like the Vette... the point of "FILLING" up the space with sound... it easy...
I have considered the following companys equipment...
Rockford Fostgate, Apline, Boss .. for Amplifiers
Rockford Fostgate, Sony, Pioneer, JL Audio, MB Quart(Cheapest Line) for both... Front and Rear
JL Audio and Rockford Fostgate for Subwoofers....
Please recommend any other brands or rank the ones I have looked at...
I plan to buy most of the items from E-bay... to save some major cash...so any rare, cheap, yet quality products would not be useful....
I plan to begin my purchases this weekend so please give any and all information.....
Thank You......

Here is my advice.
1. Front component only. If done right you will never need rear fill, especially given how small a C5 cabin is. So you can afford to splurge on a quality set of components
Focal Polyglass or PolyKevlar 165's : range from $240 to $330 respectively
http://thezeb.com/caraudio/focal.html
2. You stated that you are not a audiophile. So are you dead set on 2 10" or 1 12" sub? A well tuned system with just 1 10" with good power can blow you out of the car.
Get a Jl stealthbox with 10W3-D2 (rated at 250 watts ) PRICE $400 (I think this what they are running for a C5)
3. get a good 4 channel amp. You can run the componenets off 2 channels and bridge the other two to power the sub. For example an Audiobahn A4600E Price $240 (right now) http://thezeb.com/caraudio/audiobahnamps.html
So even with the PolyKevlar cmpts that puts you just under $1K. Add an additional $100 for wiring, distribution blocks. I assume you factored in for an adapter to use the factory head unit since you didn't mention an aftermarket piece.
With all that you will remain close to your budget goal and have quality componenets that should last you a long time if installed and tuned properly. Not to mention all the above is new, not used, from The Zeb.

I plan to use 99HT's directions on how to hook up an amp to the Bose HU.
In the Future I plan to upgrade to the Kenwood DVD In-Dash... and I think that you idea is perfect.... I will only need a 4CH amp at that time since the unit itself can power the rear speakers w/ its 22Watts RMS and all I would have to do is install the Kenwood and hook up the Amp and I would be done....
I think that I will buy the JL Sub, but make a fiberglass box myself... along with that the components you said were great but I have found a "hook up" on a set of brand new MB Quarts Reference Series Components since a local installer was given a free pair to install on a show car and then the sponsor gave him some better speakers I can get teh Quarts for $75 total...
On the amp... I have never heard an Audiobhan amp... are they better than Rockford's Power series or JL Audio's Amp, they are available in my area readily....
If you do a proper DVD set-up there should be delay in the sound processor so you get the proper imaging with rear fill. Your front components will drown out the rear with such a difference in power, and again turning it up will run the chance of damaging the rear fill with deck power only.
Regarding the Audiobahn amps. They are a good brand as well as their subs. They tend to be used more by the budget minded, but don't underestimate them. They can perform at competition level. They are probably one of the most underrated audio companies out there. My friend had a Rockford amp powering two sets of Focal Polyglass 165's in his Camaro. He couldn't trace down the distortion after rechecking all the wiring, etc. He switched it out for another audiobahn to match his sub amp. That eliminated the problem and it also ran much cooler than the RF.
