anyone into head-fi? I have a modest home rig utilizing a dared mp5 tube/gainclone hybrid and a set of behyerdynamic dt880's. I used to have that amp at work but since it's a power amp too, ive been using it as my office amp to power some budget insignias that sound pretty damn good considering the price.
anyways...I needed a new amp for work since i'll be listening to my headphones a lot more now. i've recently found a pete millet tube amp: http://www.pmillett.com/starving.htm
looks like you can get away with building this for ~$50 or purchase one from this guy: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/min...be-amp-330777/
which will run you about $190 shipped but he uses better components. The amp case is about 4"x5"x1", so it's tiny. smaller then the mini sonic impact t-amps
just thought i'd post this in case anyone was into that hobby too.
thanks, i actually have auditioned their dac and amp combo and liked it. i have a douglas hpdac that cost about 125 bucks and came very close to the sq of those units (in our a/b tests) :-)
i built the amp a couple weeks ago and have been listening to it at work every day... this thing sounds great for the <$50 investment (including the $20 case)
i highly recommend this to anyone wanting to learn how to build an amp or how to read a schematic. such a fun project i may build another one!
