Default backup camera; widescreen.

I'm looking to upgrade the HU with a unit that has a 16:9 widescreen display. The unit has a backup camera video input.

Should I worry about connecting a widescreen type camera, or just use the typical 4:3 camera?

Any suggestions for inexpensive widescreen cameras ?

What matters most is the angle of view (lens angle).

I installed one with a 180 deg lens.

On my C5, I modified the housing a little bit and used the screws above the license plate to mount it.

Works bitchin!

I just installed this Boyo camera -- It's really well build, brainless installation and the pic seems fine. Shop around, though, I think I got mine for about $139.

Be careful with the ultra wide angles; they get so "fisheyed" that they become usless when you're backing up close to something. But if you're just wanting to make sure you're not backing up over a garbage can, cat or whatever, you're fine.

thanks guys.

I'm concerned how "cheap bastich" a 4:3 camera image will look as it's displayed on a 16:9 ratio screen.

Is it that big a deal ?

You have to realize that most of those cameras see something like 380 lines of resolution, which is lower quality than regular old NTSC 4:3 television... so the reverse screen image is never going to blow you away with quality.

the main difference is that your image is going to be stretched... since you're not going to be recording the image and broadcasting it over the airwaves... you'll be fine :-)
